Who are we?
In mid-October 2022, we got the keys to the old Hovbak dairy a little north of Hjørring and just outside the village of Bjergby.
We then set about renovating it - and it has countless potential uses in the long term. We have therefore renamed it KreaRIET Hovbak.

It is a beautiful building, but when we bought it, it was a bit of a neglected and ugly duckling, which we will try to make shine like a swan again. The house showed signs of having been empty for a long time, so it had to be completely renovated from scratch - where even the technical systems had to be renovated and replaced.

The house is located in a wonderful area with both beautiful nature and close to the North Sea, which we love, and at the same time in a part of Denmark where creativity flourishes and there is a sea of small galleries, which fits well with our dream of creating a place which must flourish with creativity and attract others with similar interests.

Our attitude is that you should follow your dreams, so this sign that we found at the market square in Bjergby fits this project: perfectly:

My husband is a carpenter and I am an architect, and we love the process of creating new things in old settings. Together, we have renovated our own house and some holiday homes, but we still have many things we would like to try. However, the renovation takes place alongside our work - so it is only on weekends and holidays, which means that it will be a long process that is divided into stages. The first stage is to renovate the 1st floor in the residential part, so that it can be rented out as a holiday home, since we do not need the entire home when our older children are not at home.

We try to recycle as much as possible - so e.g. the ceiling boards from the kitchen have been taken down and painted, after which they have been used as ceiling and wall panels in one of the rooms on the 1st floor. The doors are being moved around the house a bit, depending on where they fit better, and all furniture is bought second-hand when we find the right one that fits the style we want.

We wish to furnish the house in a light and friendly style - a bit like an old-fashioned seaside hotel with beautiful wallpapers and colours, but at the same time adding some modern materials and expressions.

Part of the old dairy is to be set up as a wood workshop, where we can cut materials, paint, and renovate old furniture etc.

In the long term, the plan is for the large, tall dairy room to be used as a creative workshop and studio, where it is possible to work with various creative processes - such as painting, ceramics etc. Ever since I was a child, I have been drawing a lot, and have since worked with various forms of creative expression - both with pencil drawings, watercolour, croquis, glass art and ceramics. I hope that in the long term there will be more time for these kinds of creative pursuits now that I have a good framework for this.

Initially, we renovated the 1st floor of the old dairy manager's residence, and when we are not the whole family up there, we rent out the 1st floor via Airbnb - while we continue to renovate the ground floor.

On this website you can read a little bit about the building, our renovation, and the dairy's history, what we believe are the main attractions in nature and culture in the local area, as well as my own creations in ceramics, line drawings, acrylic painting, watercolour and glass art.

The renovation can also be followed on our page on Facebook and Instagram via links in the bar at the bottom of the page.
